Faculty Travel Grants
Introduction
The Caine College of the Arts invites tenured, tenure-eligible, and term-appointment faculty to apply for 2024-2025 travel grants to support the successful completion/dissemination of research/creative endeavors and/or the scholarship of teaching related to faculty members' role statements. Applicants may request a maximum of $1,000 for the project/trip per application window, totaling up to $2,000 maximum per academic year. Applicants should also solicit funds from their department or other funding sources. Proposals should involve the dissemination and/or completion of research related to research, creative scholarship/creative endeavors, and/or the scholarship of teaching as defined by the faculty member's role statement. Although funding is limited, faculty may submit multiple applications, provided the collective total requested does not exceed the totals indicated above. Please do not submit a single proposal for multiple projects.
The College accepts proposals for travel approximately one month before the deadline of the current round (please see specific application periods and deadlines listed below and on the current RFP). In order to provide greater flexibility to faculty, some travel eligibility periods overlap. If faculty have travel during one of these periods they may apply by either of the applicable deadlines. As funds are limited, faculty with projects dates more appropriate to future rounds, may be advised to reapply for a later round.
This program is very competitive. Faculty members should be careful to submit complete and detailed applications that follow the guidelines below to succeed in this competition. The Dean's Office will notify faculty of funding results within 30 days of the submission deadline.
Virtual Events
Proposals to support participation in virtual conferences and similar events will be considered. In such cases, the maximum award will be limited to the registration fee for the event, in accordance with current USU travel policies.

- Per Diem is calculated automatically in the form
- Other expenses
- Other sources of funding, including departmental support, grants, awards, faculty personal funds, any matching funds, and honorariums.
- Award amounts for previously awarded travel or professional development funding for the current academic year.
- A list of current and anticipated travel/professional development funding for the current academic year, including any matching funds available for the proposed project.
- A two-page condensed vita that includes the faculty member’s professional products, the number of years at USU, faculty rank, and other information relevant to the request for funding.
- Complete your proposal in ServiceNow (link below).
- Submit the online proposal for department head review by 5:00 p.m. on the deadline date.
Application Process
A college committee will review the proposals and make recommendations to the dean regarding their appropriateness and priority for support. Factors considered include: the creation and/or dissemination of creative activity/scholarship; the selection process for the creative activity/scholarship (e.g., peer review), the venue in which the activity will be presented, the importance of the project to the faculty member’s career trajectory; past and current funding history, the accuracy of the budget, the faculty member's personal contribution to the cost of the travel, and the faculty member’s prior funding history from the college. While proposals will be primarily evaluated on the aforementioned criteria, the committee may also consider optional factors such as how the project supports current and/or future students, opportunities for faculty fulfillment of leadership obligations and professional development, and/or how the project advances other college priorities, provided that these optional factors are in addition to the creation and/or dissemination of professional creative activity/scholarship.
Please note that all travel must adhere to University travel policies and procedures.
