Utah State University’s Audio Technology courses are designed for students passionate about the fusion of music and technology. We offer a well-rounded curriculum covering audio production, sound design, live sound reinforcement, and post-production mixing and mastering techniques. Under the guidance of experienced faculty, students gain hands-on experience through individual and group projects, internships, and collaborative research opportunities. These courses focus on hands-on learning, enabling students to participate in professional recording sessions, live events, and collaborative multimedia projects. We aim to nurture the next generation of sound engineers and producers, preparing them for success in the evolving realm of audio and music technology.
Audio Technology Courses Offered at USU
This course introduces the fundamentals and practical applications of audio technology. Topics include: signal flow and routing; file handling; microphone principles and applications; signal processing; live sound; audio recording and mixing. Instruction includes in-person demonstrations, and hands-on training.
This course introduces students to the aesthetic considerations and operation of equipment used in live sound, audio recording and streaming. Topics include: mixing consoles; individual and ensemble microphone techniques; planning, setting up, and
running a successful live sound production.
Prerequisite: MUSC 1360 Intro to Audio Technology
This course is a hands-on study of recording, mixing, and multimedia post-production techniques. Through a series of hands-on recording and mixing projects, students will learn microphone fundamentals; recording techniques; session management and file
exchange; editing, mixing, and mastering techniques in a variety of multimedia formats.
Prerequisite: MUSC 1360 Intro to Audio Technology
Designed to give students that are pursuing the Audio Technology Certificate of Proficiency one-on-one instruction at any and all stages of advancement. Students will work on music technology related projects developing composition, recording, editing and mixing, performance and collaboration skills with weekly feedback and guidance. It is recommended that this course be taken in conjunction with MUSC 2276 Audio Technology Capstone.
Prerequisite: MUSC 1360 Intro to Audio Technology
This class is intended for students completing their Audio Technology Certificate of Proficiency, most often in their final 2 semesters of enrollment. Capstone projects are open-ended and will need to be individually discussed and approved by the instructor.
Prerequisite: MUSC 1360 Intro to Audio Technology
This course provides audio technology internship experience in a career-related position approved by the instructor. Registration Restriction Special Approval: Instructor approval required.
