Trumpet Student Spotlight
Erik Horne - Sophomore
Describe your beginnings as a trumpeter.
When 6th grade came around my Mom told me I was going to play an instrument and so I debated which one to play. I thought cello might be cool but I didn't dig the string thing. So now it was either horn or trumpet, the horn didn't play much jazz, trumpet was the winner.
What musical actvities/ensembles do you participate in at USU?
I play in the Wind Orchestra, Symphony Orchestra, Jazz Orchestra, Marching Band, Caine Jazz Combo, Ceremonial Brass, and the Caine Brass Quintet.
What are some of the things you are covering in your lessons?
In my lessons, we are working on Charlier Etudes, Orchestral Excerpts, breathing technique and piccolo trumpet.
What are your musical plans for the future?
For the near future, I plan on pushing the boundaries of what brass players have accomplished here at Utah State and in the long run I would like to teach at the university level and play on the side.
