Arts Education

In the Caine College of the Arts, we train artists and artist-educators. Our Arts Education programs prepare the next generation of educators in Theatre, Visual Arts, and Music. With high job placement, these students are in demand! They gain the skills in their chosen discipline while also receiving the teaching certificate for the State of Utah.

Utah State University is privileged to have received two endowments from the Beverley Taylor Sorenson Foundation. Beverley Taylor Sorenson was instrumental in rejuvenating art programs in elementary schools throughout the state of Utah. Her incredible generosity created the Arts Access Program in the Caine College of the Arts as well as the Arts Are Core BTS program in the College of Education and Human Services. These two programs fund professional development, teaching artist residencies, and art experiences for all ages and abilities.

Beverley Taylor Sorenson Programs

Arts Access
This program is a collaborative initiative between USU’s Center for Persons with Disabilities, the Beverley Taylor Sorenson Arts Learning Program, the Utah State Office of Education and others to implement new programs at the elementary school level in arts education.

Arts Learning (BTSArts)
The Beverley Taylor Sorenson Arts Learning Program (BTSArts) provides arts-integrated instruction to elementary students, effectively increasing student performance in language arts, social studies, math and science. The program is currently in 400 elementary schools in Utah, 34 school districts (including 16 charter schools) and is serving approximately 202,800 students.

Community Engagement

Students in the Caine College of the Arts have many opportunities to interact with the community and local schools. These include on-campus performances, outreach programs, practicum teaching, service projects and Arts Education Fellowship. USU works in cooperation with numerous arts education programs in the community. For more information about these programs, please visit the individual websites for the organizations below.
