Message from the Dean

Craig Jessop

Welcome to the Caine College of the Arts! Join us in celebrating the unique power of the arts to illuminate, transform, and inspire the human spirit. The Caine College of the Arts seeks to make the arts more visible, more innovative, and more fully integrated into the intellectual and cultural life of the university and the communities it serves. We seek to represent the broadest interpretation of the Arts: art as personal expression, art for art's sake, art as communication, art as an important social and political force, art for personal enjoyment, and art as a contribution to what it means to be both an individual and a part of the larger cultures that connect us.

The Caine College of the Arts is a sanctuary for creative enlightenment set on a hill overlooking beautiful Cache Valley in the Rocky Mountains of Northern Utah. Situated at the entryway to the Logan Canyon National Scenic Byway, it borders the Cache National Forest and is within close proximity to 20 national parks and monuments. Its location in this spectacular natural environment inspires creative production by its students and faculty.

Our greatest asset is a team of deeply dedicated faculty and administrators who believe the arts transform the lives of students, and in turn, society. Our outstanding faculty, whose individual life experiences and research informs their work and makes them unique teachers, have a history of faculty/student collaborative research and creative activity on regional, national and international levels. Our students carry an aura about them often described as the spirit of USU: hard-working, eager, service-oriented, empathetic, friendly, wholesome and purposeful. They demonstrate a lifelong loyalty to Utah State University and are a source of great pride – our greatest ambassadors for the Caine College of the Arts and Utah State University.

The Caine College of the Arts has become an interdisciplinary, nurturing, diverse, innovative, aspirational, inspirational, agent of enlightenment that is human-centered, collegial, professional and of great value. We aspire to excellence with integrity. Come join us on this pursuit of excellence at the Caine College of the Arts at Utah State University!
